Preacher’s Daughter is the critically acclaimed debut studio album from American singer-songwriter and producer Ethel Cain, the musical project of Hayden Anhedönia. Originally released in May 2022 through Daughters of Cain Records, the album is an expansive concept record blending alternative rock, slowcore, dream pop, ambient music and Southern Gothic influences into a haunting and cinematic story.
Built over several years, Preacher’s Daughter follows its central character through religion, family trauma, love, escape and ultimately tragedy. Across its sprawling 13 tracks, Cain moves between intimate ballads and enormous atmospheric arrangements, giving the album a distinctly American Gothic character. Songs including “American Teenager,” “A House in Nebraska,” “Thoroughfare,” “Gibson Girl,” “Sun Bleached Flies” and “Strangers” have helped the record develop a devoted following since its original release.
The album finally received its long-awaited physical vinyl release in 2025, presented across two LPs, while an official CD edition followed in August 2026.
