Experience This Is the Modern World, the second studio album from legendary British mod revival and punk band The Jam. Originally released in November 1977 through Polydor, the album arrived only months after their debut In the City and captures Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler during the raw, energetic beginnings of their career.
Blending punk rock, mod revival, new wave and R&B influences, This Is the Modern World develops the frantic sound of The Jam's debut while beginning to introduce the more introspective songwriting that would become increasingly important on later records.
Featuring the classic single "The Modern World", alongside fan favourites "Life from a Window," "London Girl," "Standards," "The Combine," "Here Comes the Weekend" and "I Need You (For Someone)," the album offers an essential snapshot of The Jam in 1977. The record closes with their energetic interpretation of the Wilson Pickett soul classic "In the Midnight Hour."
This Is the Modern World reached No. 22 on the UK Albums Chart, while its title-track single reached No. 36.
